Job Description
POSITION: DIRECTOR, PROGRAMS & EVENTS 

DEPARTMENT: PROGRAMS & EVENTS

REPORTS TO: PRESIDENT

SUPERVISES: N/A 
POSITION PURPOSE: RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACQUISITION OF SPONSORSHIPS, COORDINATION AND PROMOTION OF CHAMBER EVENTS AND PROGRAMS AS ASSIGNED. THIS INDIVIDUAL WORKS WITH DESIGNATED EVENTS/PROGRAM COMMITTEES TO FACILITATE EVENTS AND PROGRAMS THAT WILL FURTHER THE CHAMBER’S MISSION OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/
EXPERIENCE: BACHELOR’S DEGREE (B.A., B.S.) FROM FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY AND A MINIMUM OF THREE YEARS EXPERIENCE IN EVENT/PROGRAM COORDINATION.

Duties:

• Coordinate, solicit sponsorships and promote Chamber events such as the Legislative Wrap-Up Breakfast, Economic Forecast Breakfast, Political Hob Nob, CarBQ, Capitol Connection, Swantoberfest and any future Chamber-initiated events and/or programs as designated. 
• Assist in coordination and sponsorship solicitation for Chamber Scramble, Annual Meeting and Tiger BBQ as needed by division responsible.
• Assist VP of Chamber Initiatives in coordination of Leadership Lakeland program (as necessary).
• Assist Chief Development Officer with coordination and implementation of Foundation programming.
• Serve as Chamber staff representative on any special events/programs committees and attend and prepare for all meetings. Also, responsible for sending out event/program committee meeting notices. Additionally, as sub-committees are formed for events/programs, will be required to attend those meetings as well. 
• Attend and actively participate in monthly full staff meetings.
• Generate articles for the Chamber newsletter promoting the Chamber’s activities and its member businesses.
• Coordinate with the Director of Marketing & Communications on publicity and all printed materials for all assigned programs and events including event programs, agendas, art, photography, themes, logos, new releases, directories, and brochures.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the President.

Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge of the local business community. 
• Must be highly motivated self-starter, well organized, creative and committed to working in a team-oriented environment.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Must be extremely proficient with Windows, MS Office Professional Suite, Internet, and MS Outlook and all social media platforms.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs such as InDesign and Illustrator is helpful, but not required. 
• Knowledge of CMS (ChamberMaster) a plus.

Relationship with other Divisions of the Chamber: 

The primary responsibilities of the director, as listed above, involve a team effort. Critical to the Programs & Events Division is the Director of Marketing & Communications to ensure our messages are conveyed to the Chamber membership and to the community at large through various forms of media. Additionally, the Director works closely with the VP of Finance and Operations on budgetary matters. Occasional reception duties are required so it’s important to know the issues and to which department or staff person to refer the request. 

Location: 

The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce is located at 35 Lake Morton Dr. Most job duties are carried out on site, but many of the events and meetings occur at various venues throughout the Greater Lakeland area. 

Salary:

Base salary commensurate with experience. Generous commission schedule.
